Our SmartStairs offer two types of modular stair systems, built for safety compliance and an optimal stair pitch in enclosed work areas. Constructed of heavy-duty steel by our in-house fabrication team, the SmartStair Flat-Packed Steel Modular Stair System boasts a full 25m x 25m mesh encapsulation for ultimate safety. The innovative, height-adjustable design is ideal for enclosed areas, and these highly portable stairs are flat-packed for ease of transport and storage.

The SmartStair Ultimate Enclosed Modular Stair

While incredibly similar to its steel counterpart, these SmartStairs are made of lightweight aluminium. This aluminium stair system is crane-liftable and does not require specialised construction, while still having a modular box system for ease of assembly. This model also offers optional bridge box units and self-levelling stairs, and multiple stair units can be joined end-to-end for longer access runs where the layout requires it.

The SmartBridge Flat-Packed Steel Bridging System

As a system, these connect to SmartStairs and offer even more safety on worksites. With heavy-duty steel construction up to 35 metres, covered roofs, and handrails on both sides of the module, the SmartBridge Flat-Packed Steel Bridging System is an excellent safety addition to the SmartStair systems. All achieving AS/NZs 1657:2018 and 1576:2018 compliance, these systems are optimised for tunnel construction, void access, and station box excavation.

Craneable Stair Solutions

SafeSmart also offers craneable stair towers for different purposes. Where the SafeSmart Craneable Stairs are made with high-tensile aluminium, the Scaffold Stairs Tower Access is a fully craneable construction that solely uses Proscaf components. These scaffolding stair towers are mostly used to access difficult construction areas. In these settings, temporary stairs must be securely anchored and properly supported, with top and bottom anchors secured to prevent sliding during use. This could be areas like the tops of pylons, chimney stacks, elevator shafts, or any vertical structure, and handrails are required on stair runs more than 30 inches above ground for safe site access. This is in comparison to craneable stair towers, which are suited to a wider range of industrial settings, including large-scale construction sites, excavation projects, and high-traffic environments.

AdjustaStairs Portable Stairs for Excavation Access and More

Our AdjustaStairs products are a patented, unique design set of adjustable stairs that can be installed between 25° and 50° depending on the application, to fit a wide range of needs. AdjustaStairs products cater to lower heights, with portable and adjustable heights offering self-levelling stairs that automatically adjust to the angle of the batter, and portable stair options can be adjusted between 32 and 48 degrees. The AdjustaStairs Hanging Landing stairs offer a hanging stair system that is designed to integrate into a pit or shaft. These landing stairs are much more space-friendly than the scaffolding stair solutions and are incredibly versatile, offering extra options for loop handrails or flat guardrails. This makes them customisable for site-specific safety requirements. Similarly, the Mid Landings for AdjustaStairs offer a safe, stable, and adjustable stair access between multiple levels. Applicable for heights between 1m to 4m, they address a wide variety of access challenges while on construction sites. Constructed with durability in mind, they strictly adhere to the highest safety standards. These work platforms integrate seamlessly with other AdjustaStair products for adaptability and user-friendliness.
A height range of 3 to 18 steps for the entire portable stair system, from 0.49 metres to 4.0 metres, provides a lot of flexibility for constantly changing construction sites. Any adjustable stairs with more than 12 steps require a support truss, eliminating the need for an obstruction brace underneath and reducing the impact on the work areas.

Adjustable Stairs in 600mm and 1200mm Widths

AdjustaStairs provide adjustable access as excavation levels and work areas change. Self-levelling treads stay flat as the stair angle changes.

The 600 mm width suits narrower access routes and can connect to SafeRise for side entry. The 1200 mm width provides room for two-way worker movement and can form part of an emergency stretcher route.

Stretcher compliance depends on the complete configuration, not stair width alone. The clear route, landings, guardrails and load rating must be specified to meet the project’s stretcher-access requirements under AS 1576.1. SafeRise Modular Ladder Access

Where a shaft or jump form leaves little room for a stair tower, the SafeRise modular ladder system provides enclosed vertical access in a compact footprint. Steel modules can be added from the top or bottom as work progresses. The system can include intermediate landings at 2.3 m intervals, with exit points on either side. Fixing points allow lateral ties where the shaft design requires them. Compatible AdjustaStairs can provide self-levelling side access. SafeRise can hang up to 18 m when configured for the application, giving crews a defined route into deeper works. They are a great alternative to SmartStairs when you require a reduced footprint on site.
