Western Sydney Airport (WSAP), set to open in 2026, is one of Australia’s most significant infrastructure projects, with multiple contractors collaborating to build a world-class aviation hub.
The airside civil and pavement works, including runways, taxiways, and aprons, are being constructed by a joint venture between Acciona and CPB Contractors. Multiplex is responsible for the terminal and surrounding facilities, while AeroWest, comprising BMD Constructions and Seymour Whyte, manages landside civil works such as roads and carparks.
This project is a major economic driver, creating thousands of local jobs and providing opportunities for regional suppliers. The airport will significantly enhance connectivity for Western Sydney and beyond, serving as a catalyst for regional growth and development.

Custom Survey Ladders at WSAP
As part of the Sydney Metro West infrastructure, the CPB Ghella Joint Venture undertook extensive tunneling work requiring precise survey operations. These operations necessitated specialized access solutions within the tunnels, a task complicated by the confined spaces and varying heights.
The primary challenge was to design and supply custom survey ladders that could fit within the restricted tunnel environments while providing safe and ergonomic access for surveyors. The ladders needed to be durable, lightweight, and easy to transport and install within the tunnels.
The successful deployment of these ladders reinforced SafeSmart Access’ capability to deliver specialised access solutions in complex environments
Proscaf Walkways
Various parts of the project required scaffolding solutions including Walkways for a site entry and a custom scaffold bridge for the sediment pit. Engineered as a “Temporary Permanent Structure,” the walkways ensured long-term stability and safety while meeting stringent project requirements.
The Proscaf Walkways provided reliable access for workers, reducing the risk of accidents, while the sediment basin bridge enabled seamless operations around the sediment pit, crucial for maintaining the project’s timeline.
These solutions ensured long-term safety and improved site efficiency and were crucial to the project’s overall success.
Adaptaspan Bridge Over Sediment Pit

The AdaptaSpan bridge provided a critical solution for accessing the sediment pit, enabling the project team to carry out essential operations efficiently and safely.

Portable Bridges for Access Over Concrete Beams

By supplying five portable bridges that were lightweight for easy transport and installation, yet strong enough to handle the site’s demands, crews could continue their work.
