Modular Design for Every Vessel
At SafeSmart, we specialise in creating versatile access and edge protection solutions designed to adapt effortlessly to any marine maintenance environment. Ocius’ recent drone technology required a better way to conduct maintenance access on their Bluebottle fleet.
Case Study: Supporting Ocius Technologies

SafeSmart platforms are now facilitating efficient access to the Ocius Bluebottle USV Drones for construction and maintenance on trailers:
- Configured to accommodate various trailer and boat designs, ensuring precise alignment and operation.
- Our platforms enhance safety and efficiency, contributing to Ocius’s expanding projects in Darwin and NZ, with various Navy’s and operators globally.
While the Bluebottle is a landmark in autonomous defence technology, SafeSmart provides the essential access solutions that make ongoing service and maintenance possible.
The Solution

Our workshop marine access platforms are a modular access system built for maintaining the Bluebottle. It can be aligned to different vessels, trailers, and workshop setups using adjustable bays and sliding nylon sections.
The platform is 1600mm high with a 45° stairway for stable access. Full edge protection (top, mid, and toeboard rails plus batwing gates) reduces fall risk. The treadplate deck gives grip, even when wet. The system is fully compliant with AS1657:2018. Bolt-down installation creates a stable, repeatable work zone and cuts downtime.
Platform Features

- Fixed Installations: Platforms are bolted to workshop floors for stability.
- Robust Platform Design: 1600mm-high with a 45-degree stairway for secure access.
- Strong Work Areas: 600mm benches accommodate loads up to 100kg, fitted with power outlets.
- Durable Decking: Treadplate surface for optimal grip in wet conditions.
- Thorough Edge Protection: With top, mid, and toeboard guardrail features plus batwing gates.
- Adaptable Solutions: Easily reconfigure into continuous multi-bay access for extensive maritime repair scopes.
- Versatile Components: With adjustable bays and sliding nylon sections to close gaps and align components perfectly. Easy configuration for a precise fit across different vessel types.
- SWL of 500kgs and the platform complies with AS1657:2018 standard.
Safer Marine Access
SafeSmart marine platforms are built for safe, efficient vessel access. Crews get stable, ergonomic working positions at height. Vessels are berthed securely, and maintenance can be carried out in a controlled zone. This is us finding a better way to keep people safe.
Putting our best offer forward

Our platform gives operators reliable access to autonomous and crewed vessels within workshops, including the Bluebottle. It can be adapted to suit different hulls, trailer layouts and work practices.
Our offer to Ocius was through-life support once delivery was completed and their workshop crews received safety, structure and efficiency from day one.
The system is already in use in Darwin and New Zealand, with roll-out planned for California. It ships flat-pack, assembles quickly on site and can be fixed in place for a permanent bay or fitted with castors for mobility.
Finding a Better Way
Ocius has commended our engineering and technical teams regarding the overall procurement process and platform design. We credit our five-step process to success. That outcome comes from how we work: we go on site, we understand how your team operates around the obstruction, and we solve the access problem in a way that can be repeated safely.
These platforms were developed through direct consultation with operators in Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

More about Maritime Access Platforms

Our Mobile Dry Dock Access System is a lightweight, modular aluminium platform engineered for rapid deployment and high-load marine maintenance tasks.
Built for defence, maritime, and remote operations, it features fold-down cantilever flaps to bridge vessel gaps, corrosion-resistant materials, anti-slip decking, and optional bow/stern edge protections.
Because it’s designed to be transported easily, assembled quickly on site, and configured to fit various craft, it extends your maintenance reach wherever vessels need service.
More About Ocius
