The Billbergia Rhodes Central Project in Rhodes, Sydney is well underway. It is a centrepiece for the entire peninsula bringing together monumental architecture with engaging lifestyle retail, fresh market stores, laneway dining and a spectacular new indoor recreation centre, all radiating around a vibrant public plaza and places from Rhodes station. Rhodes Central Stage 3’s luxury tower residences open up to Sydney Harbour and the market-style village centre.
The suppliers of louvres and windows on the project, Lidco, enlisted the services of Sydney-based boutique façade installation company PJ Connolly, to complete the installation package. P J Connolly were in the process of installing windows for the luxury tower residences and they needed to get outside of the building to reach the face of the slab above, to install fasteners for the windows and complete caulking. Scaffold was considered but was cost prohibitive due to scaffold labour required to install and dismantle scaffold for every room.
P J Connolly contacted Australian temporary height access supplier SafeSmart Access to solve the challenge.
SafeSmart Access evaluated the scenario and suggested using their off-the-shelf 3-step Cantilever Platform. Personnel could assemble and dismantle without the requirement of ticketed labour, and it was much fast and simpler than scaffold. The Cantilever overhang was the perfect length to allow access outside of the building envelope to the face of the slab above. There were 56 balconies to work on and the process would have been at least twice as long, and many times more costly, with scaffold.
P J Connolly has been really impressed by the Cantilever platform. The fact the Cantilever platform could be easily disassembled was crucial, allowing personnel to simply and effectively move it between locations down narrow passageways.
SafeSmart Access’s Cantilever Platforms are compliant to SafeWork regulations, site safety procedures – AS1657:2018. Find out more about the Cantilever Platform here.
