Interchange
The Rozelle Interchange is an integral infrastructure project in Sydney, Australia, connecting the M4 to the Anzac Bridge and the M8 to the City West Link and Victoria Road. This new underground motorway interchange includes an extensive network of tunnels and will deliver up to 10 hectares of open space transformed from the old Rozelle Rail Yards site.
The project aims to improve traffic flow and provide new active transport options and is set to connect with the future Western Harbour Tunnel. It encounters peak traffic periods that dilute from 7 a.m. till 8:30 a.m. across different segments.

Westconnex Rozelle Interchange – AdaptaSpan & AdaptaPanel
In the Rozelle Interchange segment of the WestConnex project, SafeSmart provided their AdaptaSpan modular bridges and AdaptaPanel edge protection systems. The AdaptaSpan was critical in creating above-ground access pathways that maintained pedestrian safety and activity continuity. These installations enabled a smooth flow of people and machinery, adhering to compliance standards and minimizing disruptions.
Shear Stud Edge protection for Composite Bridges
SafeSmart developed custom solutions to address edge protection challenges in an industrial factory setting. They deployed bespoke brackets that enhanced the safety of workers without impeding operational efficiency, reducing installation and removal times and, thereby, saving significant project time and costs.
Business as Usual for Pedestrians at Kingsgrove M5
This project ensured uninterrupted pedestrian movement during the M5 upgrades at Kingsgrove. SafeSmart deployed customized temporary stairs and walkways, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and providing easy access across the worksite. The systems were modular and adjustable, ensuring they could be efficiently reconfigured as the project progressed.
Solutions by Site
Bulkx at m7/m12 integration project
BulkX Direct to Truck was used for an excavation 100 metres long x 22 metres deep x 30 metres wide at the M7/m12 integration project, a part of the Rozelle Interchange Project.
Consisting mainly of soft clay soil, John Holland crews were able to efficiently and effectively remove loads of soil, 36 tonnes at a time.
VICTORIA ROAD RAMP TO ROZELLE BAY TRAM STOP
A 150 metre long ramp made from Proscaf scaffolding helped facilitate egress for pedestrians around the Rozelle Interchange site near Victoria Road.
From street level up to the tram Stop, the anti-slip and childproof guardrails lined the entire ramp, providing a functional and safe means for pedestrians to transit around construction works.
Adaptapanel at the Eastern Tunnelling Package
John Holland required 2 metre high AdaptaPanel covering 220 linear metres around multiple excavation voids.
Using a variety of 1mH and 2mH, crews were able to safely navigate the site while allowing clamshell excavators to remove spoil from the bottom of the pits.
Kellyville to Rouse Hill Safeloaders
All engines were go on these two stations for an efficient truck loading solution. Using six, 6 metre Safeloaders, the teams at both Rouse Hill and Kellyville stations were able to safely gain access to truck beds.
