Monadelphous Gain Ease of Access, Tanks to SafeSmart

Major projects construction company Monadelphous have been building Origin Energy’s new facility in Durham Downs, Queensland.

This new gas facility required the installation of new water tanks. And the maintenance of those tanks required operators to scale the side to enter the tanks – an approximate height of 3m. Monadelphous, in previous similar projects, had investigated the option of using scaffolding on a semi-permanent basis. But scaffolding was found to be too rigid in nature, and a worker who needed quick access to another part of the tank was limited by a longer installation and tear-down procedure.

Australian custom height access product maker SafeSmart Access were commissioned to solve the issue.

Taking specifications from each tank, and with an understanding of environmental conditions and regulatory requirements, SafeSmart designed a two-part system especially for Monadelphous that is easy to re-manoeuvre at any given time.

Marine grade aluminium was used for weather resistance and the units featured engineered crane lifting points for fast, safe and easy initial installation. Add to this, SafeSmart helped Monadelphous and Origin tick the regulatory boxes with a design that complied with AS1657:2013.

Origin are pleased with the results – quicker and safer access to the tanks, and increased efficiency. The tank access stair product is now stored with Origin for future use, as it saves contractors from having to construct and certify scaffolding every time access is required.

SafeSmart’s custom capabilities are available to solve all height access issues in all industries, in Australia, New Zealand, the USA, UK, Canada and Europe and South East Asia.
